5-Step Application Checklist
All new students are welcomed together directly into the MPH program, establishing a strong, shared foundation. During their first year, students meet with an academic advisor to select and declare a specialized concentration.
- All application materials must be submitted through SOPHAS.
- If you are interested in multiple concentrations, only select one; you can change and finalize your concentration after admission.
- The SOPHAS application deadline is 10 days prior to the MSU supplemental application deadline.
- If you are nearing the deadline, it is not recommended to select the Professional Transcript Entry option as it can extend the processing of your application up to 10 business days.
- Step 5 of this checklist (MSU supplemental application) cannot be completed until the SOPHAS application has been verified.
- Three letters of recommendation (Two letters for graduate certificate applicants)
- Personal statement
- Resume or CV
- Academic statement
- Recommended for academic situations that need to be explained to the MPH Admissions Committee (e.g., low GPA, individual courses/semesters with poor grades, multiple withdrawals, etc.).
- Graduate or professional school test scores (GRE, MCAT, DAT, GMAT, etc.)
- Official transcripts
- From all post-secondary institutions attended, including MSU.
- For MSU transcripts, be sure to follow the submission instructions here.
- Official English language proficiency test scores (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, MSUELT, etc.)
- For international students only
- Complete the Application Fee Waiver Request Form
- Application fee waivers are not need-based; anyone can submit a request.
- Application fee waivers do not cover application fees required by SOPHAS.
- Do not pay the application fee upon submission of your application as paid application fees cannot be refunded.
- Waivers will be processed after the application process is complete.
- If applying for an application fee waiver:
- Click "Finalize application and pay" and close out browser when prompted for payment
- DO NOT PAY

Applications are reviewed holistically by the admissions committee and take into account all components of the required materials.
