Applying as an International Applicant
The MSU Master of Public Health program welcomes international applicants but requires that the degree be completed 100% online from your home country or in the U.S. with an unrestricted visa. The online structure means that MSU cannot issue an I-20 for a student visa through this program.
International applicant residency requirement options:
- You must reside outside the U.S.
- You can reside in the U.S. with an unrestricted visa (e.g., H4 or spousal visa).
- You cannot get a student (F-1 or J-1) visa through our program.
Canadian Residents
MSU has specific restrictions on offering distance education with on-ground components in Canada. Because the MPH program requires an in-person Applied Practice Experience, some Canadian citizens may not be eligible to apply.
Verify if your region is restricted by checking the State-by-State Summary on the MSU State Authorization website. If you reside in a restricted region, see alternative options in the section below.
Practicum Alternatives for Restricted Areas
If you live in a restricted area, you may still complete the program using one of these options:
- Participating in MSU’s international practicum experience, Public Health in Ghana: a One Health Perspective.
- Finding a 100% remote practicum with an organization in the U.S.
- Completing a practicum internationally outside of the U.S. and Canada
- For those with dual citizenship with the U.S., finding an in-person practicum in the U.S.
International applicants should refer to the Graduate School International Applicants website for information and tips on successfully submitting an application.
Application Deadlines
International applicants are encouraged to have all application materials submitted at least four months prior to the specified deadline of the semester for which they are applying.
