Instructor

Ellen Thiel, MPH brings over a decade of applied experience in health economics and outcomes research, consulting, project management, and science communication to the MSU MPH program. She holds an MPH in epidemiology from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where she also taught as a graduate student instructor. Her professional career was built in the research consulting industry, with roles at Merative (formerly named IBM Watson Health/Truven Health Analytics), and Genesis Research Group, where she led real-world evidence studies tracking effectiveness and other outcomes for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Her work has contributed to more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications and award-winning conference presentations across therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, cardiovascular disease, and infectious disease. The field of public health originally appealed to Ellen because it demands both quantitative thinking and an understanding of the social and ethical factors of health and policy.
