Biography:

 

Bob Glandon PhotoPublic Health Focus/Interests: 

Rising costs of health care and growing interest in personal health in the United States are creating a demand for practical and reliable knowledge, education, and consultation. This includes examining crosscutting relationships among environments, health behaviors, access to care, and health policy.

Dr. Glandon has been engaged in assessing community health and local environmental assets for over 30 years. His work includes research, community engagement, analysis, and teaching for individuals and organizations to improve health and well-being.

Dr Glandon’s approach conceptualizes health broadly with attention to multiple factors that affect health. He recognizes that health status is driven by the interplay of physical environments and social behaviors. Dr. Glandon emphasizes results-oriented education and consultation to help individuals and organizations maximize their health and impact of their human services activities.

The overall theme of Dr. Glandon’s career can be described as helping create environments that make it easier for people to be healthy.

Professional Experience/Expertise:

  • Population-based survey research to identify prevalence of health-risk behaviors by population group and describe relationship between emotional well-being and risk behaviors.
  • Organizational development and management, including activity that led to a physical and operational integration of a complex, 300-person human service organization.
  • Established Land Use and Health Resource Team consisting of board of health, MSU, planning committee, and community leaders to review health impacts of development projects. Started in 2000 and is ongoing.
  • Outcomes analysis for human service organizations for quality improvement.
  • Helped create a process to improve healthcare access at multiple levels for low-income populations in the Capital Area.
  • Health risk behavior assessment and improvement.
  • Facilitated development, passage and enforcement of policy that reduced minors’ access to tobacco.
  • Facilitated development, passage, and enforcement of county-wide policy that reduced exposure to second-hand smoke at work and in public places.
  • Independent results-oriented health consultant to organizations.
